Bad Timing on Commentary

October 24th, 2008, 1:11 pm · 2 Comments · posted by Scott Shackford

A reader and regular letter-writer just called because he thought it was unfair of me to run my personal commentary regarding Proposition 8 on the same day I set as the deadline for submission of political letters.

I apologize: I wasn’t even thinking of that deadline that much when I planned when the commentary would run. I knew it would take several days to write that commentary to my satisfaction and figured Friday would be the best day to get that in there.

If you want to respond directly to my commentary, feel free to do so, and I’ll do my best to make room for you next week, regardless of today’s deadline, even if I have to do things like take out the editorial cartoon for a day, et cetera.

    Dear Editor,

PROP 8 is NOT about hate !! I don’t hate homosexuals, I have no reason to. They choose their life style the same way I choose mine.

I don’t want schools teaching MY first grader about gay unions at school.

Prop is about protection marriage. IF MARRIAGE IS NOT DEFINED as between a man and a woman … then it can be ANYTHING. Two men and two women, three woman and one man. One donkey and one man, anything goes.

Homosexuals may sue any church that refuses to marry them, alleging that it’s ‘discrimination’. They could sue pastors or any clergy that teaches that ‘marriage is between a man and a woman’ claiming that ‘hate speech’ is being taught.

Homosexuals will continue to have ALL their civil rights. Prop. 8 does NOT change that.

We must PROTECT our right to free speech and freedom of. I vote YES on 8

    Thank you.

Dear Editor, I applaud your comments. It is sad to think so many people would deny a few “the pursuit of happiness”. All that is asked that everyone be allowed to be united with the one they love.
